Gurdas Maan Halts His Film to Shine in ‘Veer-Zaara’

Gurdas Maan Reveals He Paused His Own Film’s Shoot to Join ‘Veer-Zaara’

Punjabi music legend Gurdas Maan has recently shared his cherished memories of working on the songs ‘Aisa Des Hai Mera’ and ‘Lohri’ from the iconic film ‘Veer-Zaara’, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Preity Zinta. Maan not only lent his voice to these soulful tracks but also made a memorable cameo appearance in ‘Aisa Des Hai Mera’, where he performed Bhangra alongside Shah Rukh Khan. The singer revealed that this cameo was unplanned and materialized at the behest of the late legendary filmmaker, Yash Chopra.

Recalling the serendipitous circumstances that led to his cameo, Gurdas Maan stated, “The film ‘Veer-Zaara’ and the songs ‘Aisa Des Hai Mera’ and ‘Lohri’ hold a very special place in my heart. One of my most treasured memories is how everything fell into place. At that time, I was busy shooting for my film ‘Des Hoya Pardes’ in Chandigarh, and coincidentally, Veer-Zaara was also being filmed in the same city. Yash Ji and I found ourselves staying in the same hotel during that period.”

He continued, “I had already recorded the song ‘Lohri’ and significant portions of ‘Aisa Des Hai Mera’ (including the Mukhda and Jugni sections), when one day, Yash Ji approached me with a proposal. He informed me that they were on the verge of shooting the song ‘Aisa Des hai Mera’, and since I was present and had contributed my voice to the track, he suggested that I appear in the song as well. That’s when I made the decision to pause the shoot of my own film ‘Des Hoyaa Pardes’ and join the ‘Veer-Zaara’ shoot. It was an incredibly beautiful moment for me to be a part of a song that encapsulates the very essence of our country.”

As ‘Veer-Zaara’ prepares to re-release in theatres on September 13th, nearly two decades after its original premiere, fans and cinephiles alike are eagerly anticipating the chance to revisit this timeless love story on the big screen. The film is not only celebrated for its heartwarming narrative but also for its unforgettable songs that continue to resonate with audiences.
