China’s PLA Invades 60km into Arunachal: India’s Territorial Integrity at Stake

China’s PLA Enters 60 km into Indian Territory in Arunachal Pradesh

Guwahati, Sept 8: The recent incursion by the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) into Indian territory in the Kapapu area of Arunachal Pradesh has sent shockwaves through India. Reports indicate that the PLA penetrated up to 60 kilometers inside Indian territory in the Anjaw district, marking a significant escalation in border tensions.

Evidence of Chinese Presence

Photographic evidence from the site reveals bonfires, spray-painted rocks, and remnants of Chinese food materials, suggesting the incursion occurred approximately a week ago. Notably, the markings include the year, a tactic reportedly used by the Chinese military to assert territorial claims during such incursions.

Historical Context

This is not the first instance of Chinese incursion into Indian territory. In August 2022, social media was flooded with visuals of PLA soldiers overseeing infrastructure activities near Hadigra Lake, with excavators at the site. In 2020, Chinese troops entered the Dibang Valley district, and in 2019, the PLA constructed a wooden bridge over Doimru Nalah, approximately 49 kilometers inside Indian territory at Amako camp.

Geographical Significance

The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) maintains a camp near Hadigra Pass on the McMahon Line at Kapapu, while Chaglagam, the nearest administrative circle in the Anjaw district, is situated about 90 kilometers from the McMahon Line. The strategic location of these areas highlights the sensitivity of such incursions.

Implications and Concerns

The repeated incursions by the PLA raise concerns about China’s intentions and the implications for regional security. These actions not only violate India’s territorial sovereignty but also risk escalating tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.
